72-hour Kits

Since I mentioned having to evacuate in the post about shelters I decided to follow up with the car kit and 72-hour kits so you would be ready to evacuate.

Have an emergency kit for each member of your family. You may want to consider making wilderness/survival 72 hour kits, and an additional evacuation 72 hour kit that has more comfort items for small children you could throw in the car.
-Store your kit near an exit of your home in an easily accessible location.
-Rotate the food and water in your kits every six months (General Conference weekend is a great reminder.) Re-evaluate the needs of each family member yearly.

Another option would be to use MREs instead. MREs are much more portable and require virtually no preparation. Additionally, you do not have to worry about a rotation schedule. However, they are more expensive, so choose what you think would work best for you and your family.

To be honest, I did this General Conference weekend so I don't have cute pictures of the kids "helping" me. Here are our kits though. Can you see our other em prep supplies on the shelves above and below them? Extra points if you can name what they all are! =o]
Have fun and good luck!
